Subramanian Swamy Complete Bio & Career

Subramanian Swamy obtained his degree in Mathematics from the University of Delhi and then obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the prestigious Harvard University.
 
He started his political career by participating in Sarvodaya movement. This movement led to the creation of political party Janata Party. He became active in politics after he was expelled from his post of teaching from the famous Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi for directly promoting unprejudiced economic policies. He was a firm opponent of India’s then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. During the emergency in 1975, he flew to the United States and organized an underground movement from there.
 
He was among the founding members of Janata Party. He was named the party pre4sident and held this position from the party’s inception from 1990 until 2013. He served as an MP for five times from 1974 to 1999. Twice as a Rajya Sabha MP and thrice as a Lok Sabha MP. He also held various prestigious posts during this period like Cabinet Minister of Law and Commerce, Member of Planning Commission among others.
 
Swamy is more of an activist than a politician. He filed a case in the Supreme Court of India in 2G Spectrum scam to prosecute A. Raja, Sonia Gandhi, and P. Chidambaram. He is also a firebrand speaker of BJP but has also made remarks against party’s own finance minister Arun Jaitley and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well. He made a lot of headlines for his unflattering remarks against former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan and Arvind Subramanian who is the chief economic advisor in Narendra Modi’s cabinet.
