T. N. Seshan Complete Bio & Career
T. N. Seshan was born and raised in Palakkad district of Kerala. After completing his graduation from Madras Christian College, he worked for 3 years as demonstrator at the Madras Christian College. After that, he went to Harvard University and obtained his masters degree in in public administration.
Prior to being appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner, he served as the Cabinet secretary and Planning Commision of India. He also held the the senior most position in the Indian civil service hierarchy. He is best remembered fo the reforms that he made while he served as the 10th Chief Election Commissioner of India. It was during his term that certain malpractices that were done during election came to an end. He conducted election with efficiency and transparency. Noboby dared to violate the law during his term and he will always be remembered for conducting the cleanest elections in living memory.
After retiring from his post in 1996, he contested for the Presidential elections in 1997 but lost the elections to K. R. Narayanan. After living out of the scene for almost a decade, he was appointed as an interim administrator to run the Pachaiyappa’s Trust, Chennai. He was appointed by the Madras High Court. He founded the trust named Deshbhakt an NGO which worked for social reforms in India. For his services, he was felicitated with the Ramon Magsaysay award in the year 1996. He was arguably the best civil cervant that India has ever had.
