Alka Nath obtained her graduate degree from Sacred Hearts College, Dalhousie. She is best known for her social work. She was not interested in politics but after her husband was named in Jain Hawala case, he introduced Alka to the Chinwara seat during 11th Lok Sabha election. She won the election with a thumping margin and finally became an MP for the first time in 1996. After her husband's name was cleared, she resigned as an MP.
She though has continued to work as a social worked and has worked for the upliftment of the poor section of the society. She is also a business woman and looks after her family business.
