Anjan Dutt is at odds with others because of his simple music and lyrics. His major musical instrument is the saxophone. He is famous as the Songwriter of Bengali music called anyodharar gaan. Among his numerous albums, some of his albums are Shunte Ki Chao, Kolkata–16, Unoshaat.
 
Besides music, he has a keen interest in acting. He made his debut in the Bengali cinema by the movie Chalachitro for which he received the  Venice Film Festival’s best newcomer award and also acted in movies like Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, The Bengali Night, Ek Din Achanak, Saheb Bibi Golam. He is called as ‘angry young man’ of contemporary India.  Dutt is also a prominent director and maker of movies like  Chalo Let's Go, The Bong Connection, Byomkesh Bakshi, Hemanta.
