Asaf Ali was born on 11-05-1888 in India. He was an Indian Lawyer, Freedom Fighter & Governor.

Asaf Ali Complete Bio & Career

Asaf Ali was a lawyer and Indian freedom fighter. He is recognised as the India’s first ambassador to the United States.
 
He attended St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. He earned prominence as one of the best lawyers in India. He advocated for Bhagat Singh and BatukeshwarDutt in the case of bombing of Central Legislative Assembly in 1929. He was also the convenor for INA Defence Team in 1945. He opposed British Attack of Ottoman Empire in 1914 and resigned from the Privy Council. Soon, he returned to India and involved himself in independence movement.
 
He was a member of Muslim Nationalist Party and was elected to Central Legislative Assembly in 1935. He was chosen as deputy leader when he was re-elected as a member of Congress party. He was jailed several times when he took part in the ‘Quit India’ movement as per the resolution passed by All India Congress Committee in 1942. He served in prison along with other leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru. He took charge of Railways and Transport in the interim Government which was headed by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1946. He was sent as an Ambassador from India to the United States of America. He also served as  the Governor of Odisha from July 1951 to June 1952.
