B.K. Hariprasad is veteran Congress politician. He joined the party in the year 1972 when he was just 18 years old. He rose to prominence after he was elected as the President of  MES College Student's Union, Bengaluru. In his political career of almost 5 decades, he has held various prestigious posts and is a public favourite as well. At the age of 36, he was sent to Rajya Sabha. In 2004, he was again sent to Rajya Sabha by his party and is still a Rajya Sabha member. 
 
He was also made the incharge general secretary of Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Orrisa for the upcoming State elections in 2019. He has been the most loyal party leader and is also among the most popular leaders from the South. After party’s massive defeat in 2014 general elections, he was fielded by the party from Bengaluru South constituency for the 2019 general elections. He was up against a youngster Tejasvi Suriya and couldn't manage to capitalize on his popularity and finally was defeated in the 2019 general elections.
