Jaffer Sharief began his political career under the reign of Nijalingappa from Congress party. After a division in the Congress, he was the one who stood in Indira Gandhi's side. He was special to Indira Gandhi. But their relationship with the Congress remained with the passage of Indira. During the time of PV Narasimha Rao, Govt, he was given the charge of the Railway Ministry. He was instrumental in gauge reformation of railways in the state, despite all or even most of the several gauges were changed to broad gauges, and therefore by saving the Railway's huge money. He was also instrumental in occupying the Wheel and Axle Plant in the Bangalore city of Karnataka.
He remained as the Railway Minister from 1991 to 1995. During his ministerial time, the unigej project was started over. In the year1995, he was accused of corruption in connection to accompanying the Govt employees to London along with him. Despite that govt used to bear, 7 lacs loss. In spite of that, this case was dismissed on Nov 2012 and all the charges against him were removed by the Supreme court.
The congress part did not give the ticket for the election of 2014, Lok Sabha seat from Bangalore constituency. So finally, after this incidence, he decided to separate from congress part forever. The Former Railway Minister CK Jafar Sharif died the age of 85 in a private hospital in Bangalore.
