Dr. Chandan Mitra is an Indian journalist. He is currently an editor and managing director of The Pioneer newspaper in Delhi, India. He was studied at La Martiniere Calcutta. In 1971, he was also won the Founder's Gold Medal 1971. He went up to St. Stephen's College, Delhi University. Moreover, he gained a MA and M.Phil degree in History at Delhi University. He also taught at Hansraj College for a short period.
He received a doctorate at Oxford University in 1984. He was also a member of Magdalen College, for the thesis of "Political mobilization and the nationalism movement in India under supervision of the noted Indian historian Dr. Tapan Raychaudhuri.He was nominated Rajya Sabha member for the period of (2003 to 2009).In 2010, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha, as a Bharatiya Janata Party from Madhya Pradesh.
He started his career in journalism as an Assistant Editor with The Statesman in Kolkata. He then moved to the Times of India in Delhi and after he joined The Sunday Observer. He struggled hard to become the Editor of the paper. Finally he started working with the Hindustan Times as an Executive Editor. Then he joined The Pioneer as Editor in 1988. He then bought control of the newspapaper from the Thapar family.
