Hardik Patel Complete Bio & Career

Hardik Patel is an Indian political and social activist. He is the one who led the Patidar reservation agitation for the purpose of including the Patidar caste in the Other Backward Class (OBC) category so that people from the community can avail the facilities of the Government by qualifying for the reserved quotas in government jobs and education programs. He went to Divya Jyot School for his initial schooling and then to K.B.Shah Vinay Mandir for his standard 12. He was just an average student in school and was a cricket enthusiast.
 
After completing 12th standard, he joined his father’s business of submersible pump fixtures in underground water wells. His father met Anandiben Patel who herself belongs to the Patidar caste and was a Chief Minister of Gujarat at that time. She was having a Mandal assembly seat. He went to Sahajanand College in Ahmedabad and completed his degree in Bachelor of Commerce in 2013. It took 2 attempts for him to complete his degree. He was elected as general secretary of the students' union of his college without any opposition. He started potable water stand as a part of social service at Viramgam Bus Stand.
 
He later joined Patidar youth body ‘Sardar Patel Group (SPG)’ in 2012 and within a time period of 1 month, he became Viramgam Unit’s president. While working with Sardar Patel Group, he came to know the challenges faced by youth in getting jobs in the private sector. He understood that the youth of the community were not able to get the government jobs due to bribe expectations and reservation quotas. He came to know that the agricultural land of a few Patidar farmers was acquired for industrialization and urbanization. The businessman from the community was facing tough competition from the online traders. He even found that the traditional source of employment and wealth of Patidars was in limbo. Since more than twenty thousand diamond industry firms shut down, thousands of the community members lost their jobs. His conflict with Lalji Patel got him out of his president post in 2015.
 
He started Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti(PAAS) aiming to get the Patidars included in the Other Backward class. The denial of a state government scholarship for his sister Monica even after getting more scores than the other few friends of her belonging to the Other Backward class triggered his work. He had a rally in Visnagar in 2015 for Patidar reservation agitation. He published it through social media to gather supporters. He succeeded in gathering a large number of people from the community at GMDC ground, Ahmedabad, declaring the day as ‘Patidar Kranti Divas. He was even arrested on the day when he started fasting after the rally was dispersed. He was charged under the Indian penal code section 151. The protest became violent and the government declared a curfew. He started Patel Navnirman Sena (PNS) in 2015 aiming at bringing all Patidars, Gujjars, and Kurmis under one roof for fighting for their demands.
