Lakshmi Puri was born in 1952 in Delhi, India. She is an Indian former Deputy Executive Director of UN Women and former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Lakshmi Puri Complete Bio & Career
Lakshmi puri completed his graduation in history from Delhi University. Then, she joined Punjab University, Chandigarh for her Master's degree in History. In 1974, she joined the government in Indian foreign service as an ambassador to Japan and Sri Lanka and later to Switzerland and Hungary. She was posted as an under-secretary on the Japan, Korea, and Pakistan desk in the Ministry of External affairs. She also served as a joint secretary for ED and MER.
IN 2002, She joined the United Nations as the director of the United Nations Conference on trade and development (UNCTAD) where she presented many policies for the growth of trade and commodities. In 2011, the United Nations entity for gender equality and empowerment of women(UN WOMEN) appointed her as Assistant secretary-general
