Mukul Sangma Complete Bio & Career

Mukul Sangma is a politician from India. He is the former Chief Minister of the state of Meghalaya. He studied medicine at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal and graduated in the year 1990. He worked as a health and medical officer at Zikzak Public Health Centre in 1991. He was elected to the State Legislative Assembly from the constituency of Ampatigiri in 1993. He was then given the position of the Chairman of Meghalaya Transport Corporation. He was re-elected to the State Legislative Assembly further in 1998, 2003, followed by 2008 and again in 2013. He represented Indian National Congress Party during the times. He was appointed as the Parliamentary Secretary for the State Government during the period of 1996-1998. He held the office of Home and Education ministry in 2003 and was made Meghalaya’s Deputy Chief Minister in the year 2005. Again in 2009, he was made the Deputy Chief Minister in the INC led- MUA government. Following the resignation of DD Lapang, Mukul Sangma took over the office of Chief Minister of the State in April 2010. Also, he has sworn in again in March 2013. 
 
His initiative of Health Insurance Scheme in Meghalaya in 2015 aimed at providing health and medical coverage to the families that belonged below the poverty line. In order to empower people economically, he introduced the LIFE Programme in 2017. During his tenure, ‘Mission Football’ was launched that aimed at promoting sports in the state. His government also aided the single mothers and orphaned girls, while also providing Wedding assistance to orphaned girls over the age of 18.
