P. A. Sangma was born on 01-09-1947 in South West Garo Hills in the state of Meghalaya, India. He is an Indian Politician.

P. A. Sangma Complete Bio & Career

Purno Agitok Sangma was one of the influential Indian politicians. He was the former Speaker of the Lok Sabha(1996-1998) and  Chief Minister of Meghalaya state(1988-1990). He completed his Bachelor degree in Arts from St. Anthony's College, Shillong. He perceived his masters in international politics at Dibrugarh University while teaching at the Don Bosco High School. He started his political career with a post of Vice-President of the Pradesh Youth Congress in 1973 for Meghalaya. He was selected as General Secretary of the party and held the position from 1975-1980.
 
He contested in 1977 election from Tura constituency and was elected to sixth Lok Sabha. He was again elected from the same place number of times. He had served as a member of Lok Sabha from 6th Lok Sabha session to 8th Lok Sabha session representing Tura constituency. He didn’t fight for the 9th Lok Sabha election. He regained his seat in tenth Lok Sabha. He continued to be a member of Lok Sabha till 2008. He was elected as Speaker of Lok Sabha in 1996. He served as a Chief Minister of Meghalaya State for the period of 1988-1990.
 
He was the one who was expelled from the party along with Tariq Anwar and Sharad Pawar for the reason of rebelling against Sonia Gandhi on the fact that she was not born in India. All three of them wanted to have someone born in the country for Prime Minister candidature. Then they founded Nationalist Congress Party in 1999. He didn’t like the increasingly close relationship of Sharad Pawar with former rival Sonia Gandhi and started creating the splits in the party. He then merged his part with Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress and formed Nationalist Trinamool Congres. He quit the Lok Sabha seat in 2005. Later he was again elected in 2006. He resigned from his fourteenth Lok Sabha seat in 2008 and took part in  2008 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election. He launched National People's Party in 2013.He lost the presidential election against Pranab Mukherjee in 2012.Throughout his political career, he had played an important role and handled many important ministries.

He was born to Chimri A. Sangma and Dipchon Ch. Marak. He had 6 siblings. A Salesian Father Giovanni Battista Busolin helped him in continuing his studies. He married Soradini K in 1973. The couple is blessed with 4 children including two sons and two daughters. His daughter Agatha is a politician whereas his another daughter Christy is not into politics. His both sons are into politics. His son Conrad is the Chief Minister of Meghalaya whereas another son James is also an active politician and home minister for the state.
