Conrad Sangma Complete Bio & Career

Conrad Kongkal Sangma is an Indian politician is a well-known leader and 12th Chief Minister of Meghalaya state. He went to St. Columba's School in Delhi for his schooling and then completed his bachelor's degree in business administration from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with entrepreneurial management as a specialization. He later perceived his Masters in Business Administration from Imperial College London with finance as a specialization.
 
He started his career in politics after his studies by working as a campaign manager for his father. He contested first time in an election in 2004 but lost it. He and his brother James won the State Assembly elections in 2008 representing NCP. Later he took over many important portfolios including Power, Finance, GAD, IT, and Tourism in the state cabinet. He presented the 1st annual budget for the state within ten days after debuting as a minister.
 
He became and continued to be a leader of opposition in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly from 2009 to 2013.He became National People's Party‘s national president after the demise of his father in 2016.He won Lok Sabha election in 2016 from Tura. After winning 19 seats in 2018 Meghalaya legislative assembly election, Sangma's party formed a government with the help of other regional parties. The total 34 members of the legislative assembly, supporting the government formation included 6 from United Democratic Party,2 from Bharatiya Janata Party, 2 from Hill State People's Democratic Party,4 from People's Democratic Front and 1 independent apart from 19 from NPP itself. He became Chief Minister of the state in 2018.
 
He has been active in social work and working as a PA Sangma Foundation’s president. The foundation works for the betterment of environment and education. It has 4 colleges in the rural part of states. He is also president of Sports Academy and Meghalaya Cricket Association.

He was born a former Chief Minister of Meghalaya Purno Sangma and a homemaker Soradini. His father was also Speaker of the Lok Sabha. He has one two sisters and one brother. His brother James and sister Agatha are into politics but his sister Christy stood away from politics. He is married to Mehtab Chandee since 2009. The couple is blessed with two daughters.
