Roger Binny Complete Bio & Career

Roger Binny’s full name is Roger Michael Humphrey Binny. He was a former Indian Cricket player who represented India in the decade of the 1980s. He was an important member of the team that won not just the 1983 World Cup in England but also the 1985’s World Championship of Cricket in Australia.
 
He rose to prominence after scoring 211 in a domestic match against Kerala. He along with Sanjay Desai shared an opening stand of 451. After which, he was called into the national side for his all round abilities. He made his Test debut against the arch-rivals Pakistan in Bangalore in 1979. He was handy with the bat scoring 46 runs but went wicket less. He came on his own in the third test of the series in Mumbai and sent back star batsmen like Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, and Majid Khan and played a big role India winning that match by a huge margin of 131 runs.
 
Arguably the biggest moment of his cricketing career came in the 1983 World Cup where he played a huge rule in India’s winning campaign. He was tournament’s highest wicket taker with 18 scalps. After his form started fading, he was dropped from the side in 1987 and last played an international match for India in 1987 against Australia in Bangalore.
 
Post retirement, he served as a coach and was the coach of the Under-19 team that won the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2000. After which, he coached the Bengal side and later became an administrator at the KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association). He was appointed as a selector in 2012.
