Santosh Mohan Dev was born on 01-04-1934 in Silchar, Cachar in the state of Assam, India. He was an Indian Politician.

Santosh Mohan Dev Complete Bio & Career

Santosh obtained his graduate degree from the GC College in his hometown of Silchar in Assam. After which he went to the UK and obtained his MBA degree from Welsh College in Cardiff. 
 
Santosh Mohan Dev was a former parliamentarian who has held various important portfolios in his illustrious political career. He was a seven time MP and got elected for the first time during the 1980 general elections from Silchar constituency of Assam. In his second term as an MP, he was made the Union Minister of State for Tourism and Communications. A position which he held for two years from 1986 to 1988 and there was no looking back after that. 
 
While serving his term as the Minister of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises in Manmohan Singh’s cabinet from 2005 to 2009, he was instrumental in the modification of automotive policies.
 
In addition to a renowned politician, he was also a noted sports event organizer. He himself was a qualified football referee. He also won the All Assam Lawn Tennis Competitions. He also was an avid reader and was a huge fan of noted Bengali writers such as Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and Rabindra Nath Tagore.

He was born to Satindra Mohan Dev who was a freedom fighter. He is the grandson of Kali Mohan Dev who was also an activist in India’s freedom struggle. He was married to Bithika Dev and had four daughters with her.
