Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi was born on 14th February 1931 in Hyderabad in the state of Telangana, India. He was an Indian Politician. He is also referred as "Salar-e-Millat".

He is a noted figure of the regional Muslim political party, AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen). He became the president of the party in 1976 after his father’s death. He was backed by the Muslim community of Andhra Pradesh and he single-handedly influenced the election results for the entire state. Members of his family had often been arrested for delivering provocative speeches.
 
Owaisi joined politics after his father was sentenced to jail in 1958 and won the Hyderabad Corporation Election in 1960. He became highly active in politics in the late 1970s and contested in the 1978 General elections from Char Minar Constituency of Hyderabad and eventually won the seat. He retained his berth in the next elections as well and he and his party gained huge fame. He continued his winning streak for 6 straight terms until 1999.
