Yukta Mookhey lived in the Middle East until the age of 7 before she returned to Mumbai where she was born. Prior to participating in the prestigious Miss World Competition, she studied Zoology. After which, she took Hindustani classical music classes and also completed a diploma in Computer Science as well. She participated in the Miss World beauty pageant in 1999 and ended up winning it. This paved her way to modeling and acting industry.
 
She made her debut by appearing in a song of the Tamil film titled Poovellam Un Vasam in the year 1999 where she featured as Miss World Yukta Mookhey. Three years later, she made her Bollywood film debut opposite Aftab Shivdasani in the film called Pyaasa. The movie was a disaster at the box-office and she too was criticized for her acting. After which, she too left interest in taking many offers. Three years later, she again appeared in a film titled Katputli which again was a disaster.
 
She then made a brief appearance in the film Love In Japan and did an Assamese film titled Kab Kahaba Tu I Love You. Her last film was Memsahab - Lost In A Mirage. All her films failed and she decided to quit the industry. She has also participated in various charitable organizations and also donated her eyes. She formally joined the political party, BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) in the year 2004.
