Umar Akmal Complete Bio & Career

Umar Akmal was born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan. His elder brother was also a cricketer and hence he too decided to become a cricketer at a very young age. He raised praises from experts during his teens and finally drafted into the national side when he was just 19 in the year 2009. He made his international debut when Pakistan toured Sri Lanka in the year 2009. He played both ODIs and T20Is on that tour and showed the world what he is capable of.

He was then drafted in the Test squad when Pakistan toured New Zealand in late 2009. He scored a brilliant 129 where no other Pakistani batsmen could even score 30. He tore apart the likes of Daniel Vettori and Shane Bond. Post that though, he got starts more often than not but couldn’t convert those starts and that made his critics took a severe beating on him.  Off the field though, he had issues more often than not. In 2010, he had issues with the higher authorities of Pakistan cricket and that made his exit from the team. A couple of years later he slammed then coach of Pakistan Mickey Arthur and that too didn’t go down well with Pakistan Cricket.  His career graph too started declining and in a career spanning over a decade, he could represent Pakistan in only 16 Tests. Though, he was a regular member of the side in the limited versions of the game. After being dropped from the side he went back to domestic cricket and scored heavily. While things were about to turn in his favour, he was handed a 3-year ban by the Pakistan cricket board in April 2020 under anti-corruption code. Many experts including Ramiz Raja slammed Umar Akmal for his conduct and said that this was a prime example of a waste of talent.
