He has three elder brothers Kanwal Sibal, Virender Sibal, Jitendar Sibal and a sister named Asha Nanda. He married an Indian Diplomat Nina Sibal on 13-04-1973. Together they have two sons named Akhil Sibal and Amit Sibal. The marriage ended with his wife's death in 2000. In 2005 after 5 years of the death of his 1st wife, he remarried Promila Sibal.
