An elegant and tall right-hand batsman and is also a part-time wicketkeeper. KL Rahul is indeed one of the highly rated batsmen but has underperformed thus far. He first came to prominence after he was included in the 2010 ICC Under-19 World Cup. A year later, he began his first-class career by representing Karnataka. It took him a couple of years to establish himself at the first-class level. He was instrumental in Karnataka winning the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy. He made 1033 runs that year including 3 hundred to his name. This helped him garner a contract worth 1 crore INR with the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad.
 
KL Rahul was a consistent performer for his stateside and was compared with the likes of legendary Rahul Dravid. He was finally included in the national squad when India toured Australia in 2014. He scored a brilliant hundred in his debut season and since then has been able to retain his place in the test side. He was being looked upon as a test specialist until IPL 2016 where he was transferred from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Royal Challengers Bangalore. He started opening the innings with Chris Gayle and was instrumental in his team reaching the final of the tournament. This outing at IPL in 2016 fetched him into ODI set up and made his debut when India toured Zimbabwe in 2016. He scored a century on debut and proved that he can be instrumental in shorter formats as well. He scored a brilliant hundred in a T20I against West Indies where India nearly pulled out an impossible chase. Thus became one of the few players who has scored a century in all the forms of the game. A shoulder injury kept him out for the major portion of 2017. He, however, made a successful comeback in Tests but is yet to find himself a place in the shorter format of the game. He was given opportunities against Sri-Lanka where he was tried at number 4 but failed to convert that opportunity to cement his place in the side. He is an explosive opener but that slot being already filled by Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan it seems unlikely that he will get more chances. However, selectors have made it clear that he is too good a player to miss out so he is always included in the 15 member squad. He though was suspended after The Koffee With Karan fiasco and had to miss the Australia and New Zealand series because of that. He was finally included in the team when Australia toured India in Feb-March 2019. He though included in the World Cup 2019 squad and played some crucial knocks for his team.
 
In IPL too he is a hot property and was roped in by Kings XI Punjab for a sum of INR 11 crores in 2018. He was the only positive for his franchise in an otherwise forgettable season.
