The Indian Leader and Independence activist, Motilal Nehru, was born to Gangadhar Nehru and Jeevarani. He attended Muir College, Allahabad but he failed to sit for his final year Bachelor of Arts exam. Then he went to the University of Cambridge and got qualified as “Bar at law” and then enlisted himself as a lawyer and later became a barrister and settled in Allahabad. He became one of the Indians to get educated through “western” education.

He was an activist and fought for freedom for which he joined the famous Non-cooperation Movement which was started by Mahatma Gandhi. He was very close to Mahatma Gandhi but later some differences prevailing between them made them separate their ways. Motilal Nehru joined Swaraj Party, which belonged to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, with a motive to destroy the British premises in India. The party did not get success and then Motilal Nehru joined back the Congress.

In 1926, Nehru made a demand for a conference in order to draft the constitution which sought dominion status for India. But the proposal was rejected by the Assembly. Later on, Motilal’s highly educated and glamorous son Jawaharlal Nehru entered the politics and started the new and most powerful political dynasty in India.
