Vijay Lakshmi Pandit, an Indian Freedom Fighter was born on 18th August 1900. She was an active politician and diplomat, and also the first woman to be employed as President of the United Nations General Assembly.

Mrs. Pandit, was the younger sister of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, was born to the leading family of one of India's prominent political sovereignty, which included Indira Gandhi her niece, who served as Prime Minister for 13 long years, and Rajiv Gandhi who succeeded Indira following her demise in 1984 and was a holder PM’s position until 1989.
She began her political career by becoming the first Indian woman to serve a cabinet post. In 1937 she was voted into the legislature of the United Domain and was employed as minister of local self-government and public health.
After India attained Freedom, Pandit enrolled on an acclaimed diplomatic career, leading the Indian contingent to the UN, served as his Nation’s ambassador to Moscow, Mexico, and Washington. Her biggest achievement was becoming the first woman president of the UN General Assembly.
After her fallout with then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, she retired from politics. She came out for campaigning against Indira Gandhi in 1977 elections and helped the Janata Dal win the 1977 election.
