Nirmala Sitharaman Complete Bio & Career

Nirmala Sitharaman is a politician from India. She is an Alma mater of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Earlier, she attended Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College in Tiruchirapalli to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in economics. 
 
She has worked as a Senior manager at Pricewaterhouse Coopers and BBC World. She was also a member of the National Commission for Women. In her political career, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2006. She gained popularity in Andhra Pradesh and she was named as one of the National spokespeople in 2010. She spoke for the party and its leaders on the prime media networks and rose to prominence. She played a pivotal role in projecting Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister Candidate through the media during the 2014 General elections. After BJP’s victory in the elections, she was sworn into the office of Minister of Commerce and Industry in May 2014. She was also elected to the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh in 2014. She contested and won the election for Rajya Sabha from the state of Karnataka in June 2016. Following the cabinet reshuffling, she became the first full-time female Defense Minister of India on September 3, 2017. She is the first one to be appointed as full-time defense minister. She is the second Indian women to be a part of CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security).
 
After becoming MP againin 2019, she was this time made the finance minister and thereby became the first female finance minister of Independent India. She presented her first budget on 5th July 2019.
