Sandip Ray was born on 8th September 1953 in Kolkata, India. He is an Indian Film Director and Photographer who predominantly works in Bengali cinema. He is the only son of the well-known Bengali director Satyajit Ray and Bijoya Ray.

Sandip Ray Complete Bio & Career

He began his professional career at the age of 22 as an assistant director on his father's film Shatranj Ke Khilari in 1977. Before which, he helped his father in various capacities including unmoving photographer on set. His first directorial debut film was Phatik Chand in 1983. The film received an overwhelming response and also won the National Award as well. He also directed the "Satyajit Ray presents"; a famous television series which was based on the screenplay and short stories by Satyajit Ray. In 1994 he directed Uttoran (The Broken Journey) and the following year he directed Target, a movie based on a screenplay by his father Satyajit Ray.

Apart from an adept director Sandip Ray is also an accomplished photographer. He was the director of photography on Satyajit Ray's films like Ganashatru, Shakha Proshakha, and Agantuk

He was born to Satyajit Ray and Bijoya Ray. Sukumar Ray was his grandfathe and Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury was his greatgrandfather. Actress Ruma Guha Thakurta is his cousin. He married Lalita Ray with whom he has a son Souradip ray.
